October is over and November is coming around the corner. You know what that means, right? Time to prepare for Christmas.
To start off the preparations, The Capitol Christmas Tree has been chosen and loaded onto a specially designed Kenworth T880 Heil Flatbed for it’s journey to D.C.
The front lawn of the United States Capitol has had 49 trees erected and decorated since it’s initial start in 1963. All of the trees used have been a variety of spruces and firs.
This year will be a 80-feet-tall White Spruce from the Chippewa National Forest in Cass Lake, Minnesota, roughly the third tallest tree the Capitol has had. Minnesota hasn’t been given the honor to supply a tree in 22 years so they are more than happy, and very proud, to give a tree once more.
The tree is slated to arrive in D.C. one month from now. Then it will be rooted and decorated with ornaments hand crafted by children and some from the Minnesota community. The tree is set to be lit by Speaker of the House John A. Boehner on December 2nd.
