Newark, Delaware (5/20/2014) — A semi truck carrying 460 bee hives overturned in Delaware on Tuesday, releasing nearly 20 million honey bees to swarm the interstate.

The load of bees was being transported from Florida to Maine when the truck flipped over on the ramp from Route 896 to Interstate 95. After crashing, the 55 year old and driver and two passengers were stung between 50 to 100 times each.

Delaware police shut down the highway for seven hours and implemented a swarm removal plan for the first time since it was created 14 years ago.
