A nurse fell off Interstate 70 while rushing to scene of a semi truck crash.
It happened around 5 a.m. on Wednesday when a semi truck jackknifed and a dump truck overturned on a bridge over the Monocacy River in Frederick County, Maryland.
Police stated that the nurse ran to help after witnessing the accident, then jumped over a wall, believing that there was a median on the other side.
But there was no median.
The nurse ended up falling approximately 75 feet into the river below.
Emergency crews rushed to the scene of the crash.
The Baltimore Sun reported that the nurse survived the fall and was able to call her husband for help. She and the two drivers were taken to Shock Trauma. Their conditions are unknown, and their names have not been released.
Due to debris, I-70 was shut down in both directions between exit 56 and MD 144 for several hours. Traffic was diverted to MD Route 144 while crews worked to clear the scene.
The incident remains under investigation.
