A tractor trailer crashed and caught fire, causing part of the interstate to be closed for several hours.

It happened on Monday around 8:06 a.m. on the eastbound side of I-66 near the Route 15 overpass in Prince William County, Virginia.

According to The Washington Post, the semi truck was traveling east on the interstate when it veered off the left side of the road, striking the guardrail. The truck ran along the railing for about a tenth of a mile.

It came to a screeching halt, then caught fire.

Its load of tomatoes littered the roadway.

Officials initially closed east and westbound lanes of I-66. Westbound lanes were opened by 9 a.m. Eastbound lanes were closed for cleanup as of 10:30 a.m.

The truck driver, 50-year-old Jose E. Martinez of Brownsville, Texas suffered minor injuries. Police reported that fatigue was a factor in the crash. The driver was charged with reckless driving.

The crash remains under investigation.
