Werner Enterprises just raised the per-mile pay for owner operators in an attempt to retain and attract new drivers.

According to the company’s recent press release, the pay hike, which took effect on November 3rd, will equal approximately $10,000 a year in increased payments for all 48-state van solo owner operators. This increase effects nearly one-third of the company’s owner-operator fleet.

The company says its the largest per-mile pay increase in their history.

In addition, Werner says they’re adding significantly more dedicated and regional route opportunities for owner operators.

Werner’s president and COO, Derek Leathers, commented on the recent pay hike, “As we aim to grow certain aspects of our fleet, we continue to examine and adjust payment packages where it makes sense for both retention and expansion.”

“Professional drivers are vital to our business and our nation’s economy, so it’s important that we compensate them accordingly.” he added.

Werner Enterprises was founded in 1956 and is based out of Omaha, Nebraska.
