A truck driver from North Carolina was charged with aggravated assault on Saturday for assaulting a fellow driver at a Petro truck stop more than a month earlier.

Authorities believe that 50-year-old truck driver Arnold Eckhardt violently assaulted a 60-year-old driver at the Petro in Bordentown, New Jersey on September 8th. After a month long investigation, officials identified Eckhardt as their prime suspect and tracked him down in Georgia, where they made the arrest.

Bordentown police believe the attack was caused by road rage, stemming from an incident which may have occurred between the two drivers just outside the truck stop.

According to NJ.com, Eckhardt allegedly pulled the driver out of his cab, then assaulted him by punching and kicking him in the head and neck.

The victim was critically injured from the attack, but is expected to survive.

Eckhardt was arrested and charged with second-degree aggravated assault and is being held on $250,000 bail.
