American Central Transport has announced a 2 cents per mile pay increase to drivers who install Lytx DriveCam video-based event recorders inside their trucks.

Company drivers will have no say in the matter and will automatically receive the pay increase, as the company plans on installing the cameras in all its trucks by year end.

Owner-operators who drive for the company will receive the pay increase once they install the cameras in their trucks. The company is offering to install the system for drivers at no cost.

ACT’s Chief Operating Officer commented on the announcement in a company blog post. “We appreciate the job our drivers do and we know what you’re going through out there. Raising our pay ceiling is just one way we can show our drivers how important they are to us.” he said. “And for our independent contractors, giving them this increase is our way of saying thanks for making our fleet even safer with the addition of a drive cam. ”

According to Lynx, the manufacturer of the DriveCam systems, the cameras are always recording but will only save driver-facing footage when certain triggers are met, such as a sudden stop or unexpected impact.
