Border patrol agents in Falfurrias, Texas, discovered 60 illegal immigrants inside a refrigerated tractor trailer on Saturday morning.
Agents at the Falfurrias checkpoint were alerted to search the trailer by police K-9s.
Inside the padlocked trailer, officers found 60 illegal immigrants bundled up in large winter jackets. According to an ICE press release, inside the trailer were 22 Guatemalans, 17 Mexicans, 13 Salvadorans, and eight Hondurans.
The immigrants were bundled up in large winter jackets, and the trailer’s temperature was 49 degrees at the time of the discovery. They were laying on a thin sheet of ice, on top of pallets of broccoli.
The discovery in the cold, refrigerated trailer is notable after several people were found dead in a scorching hot trailer in a human smuggling bust in south Texas last month.
The driver of the semi truck was arrested at the Falfurrias checkpoint and is facing several charges.
No one in the trailer required medical attention.
