A resident of Plant City, Florida, was killed after crashing into the back of a semi truck and getting wedged underneath the trailer on Friday night.
17-year-old Waleika Swingler was driving home in her 2006 Ford Focus on Interstate 75, near SR 60, when she collided into the back of a semi trailer while trying to pass it. Her car was wedged underneath and dragged for 75 feet before becoming dislodged.
The truck driver, Mohamed Ahmed, was unaware of the collision and contacted police several miles later after noticing the damage to his trailer.
According to WTSP-10 News, Florida Highway Patrol determined that the damage on Ahmed’s trailer was connected to the Swingler’s crash. No charges were filed against the 34-year-old truck driver.
FHP also reported that alcohol is not suspected to be a factor in the crash.
