150 tow truck drivers joined together in Columbus, Ohio, for the funeral of a fellow tow truck driver who died on the job.

John A. Carpenter Jr. was killed in an accident, by 31-year-old Brian N. Spencer, on Sept 22. while performing his job towing a vehicle from westbound lane to state route 104, near Lockbourne Road. Police say Spencer failed to move over one lane while the tow truck had its flashing lights on. He lost control of his vehicle and hit four others and Carpenter as he was loading a vehicle. Spencer was taken into police custody and charged with felony drug possession.

The funeral procession started on Oct. 2nd at 515 N. High St. in Worthington at Rutherford Corbin Funeral home. Traffic was expected to be slow. They went south to Morse Road, then east to Sunbury Road and finally made it to the cemetery.

There is a law that people need to remember: when you see a public safety vehicle, you are to move away from that vehicle. If you find that you can’t move away then slow down to a point where you can anticipate and observe what may happen so you have ample time to react in case something goes wrong.
