A large winter storm passed through Wyoming overnight, leading to the closure of several roads including large sections of Interstate 80.

The snow fall was over by Wednesday morning, however strong winds have caused significantly reduced visibility and dangerous driving conditions.

About 350 miles of Interstate 80 are closed between Cheyenne and Evanston. Also closed are sections of US 30 and state highways 77, 130, 487 and 34 north of I-80.

The National Weather Service warned, “Visibility may be reduced to as little as one quarter of a mile at times due to blowing snow,” and that travel would be very difficult in surrounding areas (which remain open).

Update:

The I80 is now open in both directions between Rawlins and Laramie. However, travelers can expect delays in both directions due to several accidents.

Update #2:

Most roadways have reopened. Wyoming Highway Patrol says the storm caused nearly 90 accidents in two days.
