A semi truck hauling potatoes was cut off by a motorist in Nebraska on Wednesday, forcing the rig into a bridge and scattering its load of potatoes across the highway.
The accident occurred on January 3rd at approximately 11:54 a.m. near Aurora, Nebraska.
According to the Lincoln Journal Star, the semi truck was traveling east on Interstate 80 near mile marker 326 when it was cut off by a motorist while passing beneath a bridge. The tractor trailer then swerved to avoid a collision and drove onto the shoulder of the highway, where the roof of the trailer got caught on the bridge. The trailer was then ripped open and the tractor separated from the trailer, spilling thousands of potatoes along the roadway.
Neither the unidentified truck driver or the motorist were injured in the incident and no other injuries have been reported.
The eastbound lanes of I-80 were shut down for nearly 4 hours as crews used bulldozers to remove the mounds of potatoes from the roadway. The incident has since been cleared and the highway, reopened.
It is not known what citations, if any, were issued.
