An out of control semi truck was caught on video swerving through a construction zone on a Houston highway last Wednesday.
The video was captured on March 21st at around 1:00 a.m. on Highway 290 in Houston, Texas and was posted to Facebook by user Herman Hu, who was on his way home from work at the time of the incident.
In the clip, the Link America semi truck can be seen traveling on a portion of the highway sectioned off by cones, swerving side to side before eventually running over a flashing arrow sign.
“I noticed an 18-wheeler was in the cones,” Hu said.
“He was running into the cones and he ran over a flashing arrow sign.”
The big rig then continued on, crashing into a parked construction pickup, which nudged the semi truck towards the 43rd Street exit, where it finally stopped after crashing into a sound barrier.
“That wasn’t him steering, that was just a coincidence that he went off the freeway. And it’s a good thing he went off the highway,” Hu continued, saying he followed the erratic semi truck for around a half mile.
The sound barrier that stopped the semi truck was seriously damaged in the crash, falling into a resident’s yard and burying his chain link fence beneath the concrete.
“I saw two gentlemen out here looking at it the next morning and they said that they would fix it,” said Ricky Browne, owner of the fence damaged in the incident.
“I don’t know when and I’m not going to hold my breath,” he said.
The reason for the truck driver’s erratic behavior and dangerous driving has not been released, but there is speculation that the driver was suffering from a medical emergency.
KPRC Houston reached out to Arnold Trucking, which also owns Link America, on Sunday, March 25th but was told there was no one to answer their questions.
The incident is still under investigation and the identity of the truck driver has not been released.
