A truck driver was uninjured after a coughing fit sent his big rig into the Apalachicola Bay in northwest Florida on Friday.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the driver of the truck “inadvertently steered to the right” during a coughing fit on U.S. Highway 98. The truck then left the roadway, getting stuck in the mud about 150 feet from the water.
The Franklin County Sheriffs Office shared this photo from the scene.
The truck remained upright and did not overturn.
“We’re just fortunate nobody was hurt,” said Franklin County Sheriff A.J. Smith. “I’m glad it went in the bay instead of hitting another car.”
The driver of the truck was cited for failing to maintain his lane. No one was injured in the incident.
