
A truck driver was accidentally shot in the face while driving in North Carolina Friday after a local man’s target practice went awry.
The incident happened at 3:22 p.m. in Johnston County, North Carolina.
According to CBS 17, the truck driver was traveling along Interstate 40 west near North Carolina Highway 96 when a stray bullet from a nearby man’s target practice pierced his cab and struck the lower part of his face. The driver was then able to pull over safely before calling 911.
The unidentified, 59-year-old truck driver suffered injuries to his lower face and neck, along with a broken jaw, but is luckily still able to communicate with detectives.
Upon investigation, officers discovered that 24-year-old Colton Kinsey had been shooting a rifle towards I-40 on his family’s property using an inadequate backstop, allowing the bullets strike the truck driver.
“I just heard bang, bang, bang, bang, I told the deputies,” neighbor Dalton McLamb said.
Kinsey has since been charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury.
The truck driver’s current health status is not known.
