A truck driver was able to escape his suspended semi truck after going over a bridge railing in an attempt to avoid a collision with another motorist Friday morning.

The accident happened on July 20th at 7:26 a.m. in Manatee County, Florida.

The Florida Highway Patrol says that 49 year old trucker Troy Bretts was traveling north in the middle lane of the Interstate 75 bridge at mile marker 224 in wet conditions when a white vehicle moved from the right lane into the center lane, cutting off the big rig.

Bretts then tried to avoid the motorist but lost control due to the wet road, causing the semi truck to jackknife and leave the roadway and jump the barrier wall, coming to a stop with the cab dangling off the side of the bridge.

Bretts was then able to escape the hanging semi truck without injury, reported ABC 6.

The crash closed all northbound lanes of I-75 near the Highway 301 exit but the roadway was reopened after approximately two hours.

Officials say they are still investigating the crash and no charges have been filed.
