A truck driver was praised after driving into a church in order to avoid a group of school children.
The incident occurred around Tuesday afternoon at the Living Church of God near the intersection of Church Street and Highway 513 in Enterprise, Mississippi.
WTOK reported that the truck driver, Deandre Smith, was driving a tractor trailer and was unable to stop in time as he approached slowed school traffic in front of Enterprise Elementary School. In a split second decision, the driver steered away from the group of children and instead drove into the church.
Police Chief Joey Moulds praised the driver’s actions, “Thank goodness for him and the Lord that he was able to dodge all of the traffic to keep from hitting the children.”
Although the church was severely damaged, members of the community were grateful that no one was injured.
Moulds added, “It was a miracle and great driving on his part and I believe this young man needs some kind of certificate or recognition for what he did in not causing any injuries.”
Traffic was delayed in the area while crews responded to the scene. No one was injured.
