A truck diver was arrested after a hit and run accident that claimed the life of another trucker in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, on Friday morning.

According to police reports, 24-year-old truck driver Zivko Lakic, of Bronx, New York, was stopped on northbound Interstate 81, near mile marker 56, when he was struck by another tractor trailer around 6 a.m.

The truck sideswiped Lakic’s rig and fatally wounded the driver, who was standing near the driver’s side door of his stopped truck. The suspect failed to stop at the scene and continued heading north.

Police were able to locate the suspect at the Pilot Flying J truck stop in Dauphin County, approximately 20 miles north of where the accident occurred. ABC27.com reported that officials were able to identify the truck because of the front end damage.

The driver of the truck was identified as 56-year-old Alan Kegal of Leader, Texas.

The crash caused a five-mile backup, beginning before Exit 52, but has since been cleared.

Kegal was taken into custody and is facing charges of reckless driving, leaving the scene of a crash, causing an accident involving death, driving out of his lane, and failing to give aid at the scene of the accident.

The investigation is still underway.
