A section of Interstate 75 in Campbell County will be closed in both directions for an extended period of time due to rock slides, according to the Tennessee Department of Transportation.

The affected section of I-75 begins at mile marker 132 on the northbound side, and mile marker 160 on the southbound side.

As reported by WBIR.com, northbound traffic is being rerouted to U.S. Highway 25W and southbound traffic is being diverted to State Road 297 West.

The highway was expected to reopen by Monday, however on Friday, TDOT spokesperson Mark Nagi said the stretch of highway will be closed for much longer than expected. TDOT estimates that the closure will now last for “weeks.”

“We won’t allow a roadway to be open to the public if we feel it presents a danger to the motoring public, and right now that roadway is not safe for travel,” Nagi said.
