In Helena, Montana, a semi truck driver suffered sever injuries after his truck tipped over.

The incident occurred on Thursday afternoon on Lincoln Road near Flescher Pass.

By 1 p.m., the semi truck headed southbound on Highway 279 rolled on a downhill curve and landed on its side and crashed into a guardrail, blocking traffic.

About 30,000 pounds of used cooking grease and 200 gallons of Diesel fuel spilled onto the road.

Montana Highway Patrol Trooper Alicia Williams stated:

“The driver was coming around this corner, and the trailer started to roll, and everything just followed along with it. Alcohol was not a factor, not sure about speed yet.”

Missoulian reported that Lincoln Road/Montana Highway 279 near the scene of the crash was shut down into the evening as crews attempted to clean the grease and fuel.

Fish, Wildlife and Parks was onsite to assess the damage because the semi’s spill had leaked into a small stream that feeds into Canyon Creek.

Two people were in the truck. The truck driver was taken to St. Peter’s Hospital with serious injuries.

The exact cause of the crash is under investigation.
