Blow some black smoke in New Jersey and you may now face a $5,000 dollar fine.
Governor Chris Christie signed bill S2418 into law on Monday, which will prohibit “the practice of ‘coal rolling'”, effective immediately. The new law is somewhat redundant, as it was already illegal to modify a diesel powered vehicle to roll coal.
According to NJ.com, the bill was suggested by Assemblyman Tim Eustace after a pickup truck blew black smoke on his electric Nissan LEAF.
The penalty, set by the state Commissioner of Environmental Protection, is a fine of up to $5,000.
