A portion of Highway 87 was shut down in Texas Monday after a motorist pulled into the path of an oncoming semi truck.

The accident happened around 10:00 a.m. in Lubbock County, Texas.

According to KSLA News 12, a motorist was traveling east on Farm to Market Road 41 when it tired to cross Highway 87. The motorist then pulled out in front of a semi truck heading north on Highway 87, causing a collision that overturned the semi truck and caused the motorist to spin out.

Both the female motorist and the male truck driver were injured in the incident and were transported to a nearby hospital. Both have been listed in serious condition.

The semi truck was hauling propane, and a second tanker truck will have to be called in order to off load the material so that the wrecked rig can be turned upright.

Officials say there is no danger to the public, but are asking that people avoid the area, as traffic is being diverted.

As of Noon on Monday, there was no estimated time of reopening and officials were not sure when the wreck would be cleared.
