Two police vehicles were seriously damaged in Tennessee over the weekend after officers say a semi truck “violated the move over law.”
The accident happened in Coffee County, Tennessee on Saturday, April 28th.
TheTennessee Highway Patrol says that a Tennessee Highway Patrol officer and a Coffee County Sherriff’s Deputy were responding to a previous crash on eastbound Interstate 24 near mile marker 112 when an oncoming semi truck did not change lanes to give them room , accidentally crashing into the trooper’s cruiser and pushing it into the deputy’s vehicle, leaving both vehicles wrecked in the grassy shoulder.
Luckily, the troopers sustained only minor injuries in the crash and the truck driver and his passenger were not hurt.

“This is exactly why we stress move over! Earlier today one of our troopers was struck by a driver who violated the move over law!” wrote the Tennessee Highway Patrol in a Facebook post.
According to Fox 13 Now, Tennessee passed the “Move Over” law in 2006, which requires drivers to move over or at least slow down for emergency vehicles. All 50 states have some version of this law, but around 71% of Americans are unaware that these laws exist.
The truck driver’s identity has not been released and it is not clear if he was actually issued a citation for his alleged violation.
