A car thief was texting and driving when he crashed the stolen vehicle into a semi truck, police say.
It happened on Tuesday, September 12th on U.S. 150 in Floyds Knobs, Indiana.
According to WLKY, Michael Smiddy was texting while driving a stolen pickup truck at Navelton Road on U.S. 150.
As he was texting and driving, Smiddy collided with a tractor trailer also traveling on U.S. 150. The impact crushed the front end of both the pickup and the tractor trailer.
Smiddy was taken to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. He is believed to be in stable condition.
The driver of the tractor trailer declined medical attention at first but later complained that he was in pain, reported News and Tribune.
Smiddy will face charges of possession of stolen property and texting while operating a motor vehicle.
The identity of the truck driver has not been released.
As of 12:03 p.m., U.S. 150 is still closed in both directions as crews clean up a 150-gallon diesel spill from the tractor trailer.
