The quick thinking and skill of an observant trucker potentially saved the lives of motorists and other big rig drivers alike traveling along Interstate 75 in Florida on Wednesday.

The incident occurred on the morning of June 20th in Mango, Florida.

According to the Brandon Patch, 33-year-old concrete pump truck driver Michael A. White was traveling north on I-75 near the State Road 574/Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard exit when he says he reached down for a drink, momentarily taking his eyes off the road.

In that moment, White collided with the back of a big rig driven by 65-year-old Ismael M. Roman, causing both drivers to lose control of their vehicles. The two zig zagged across the roadway, avoiding other vehicles on the highway before they were both eventually able to come to a stop in the outside lane.

White suffered only minor injuries in the incident, Roman was uninjured, and no other injuries have been reported.

The crash shut down several lanes of the highway until about 8:15 a.m. but has since been reopened.

Thanks to the skilled reaction of trucker Ismael Roman, the two drivers, along with any nearby motorists, were able to leave the scene of the incident without serious injury, an outcome that could have turned out very differently.
