A trucker and a Love’s truck stop technician have died after being run over while making a roadside repair.
It happened on Tuesday, August 22nd on Interstate 71 in Ashland, Ohio.
According to WMFD news, at approximately 4:25 p.m. on Tuesday, truck driver Steven Garceau, and Love’s truck stop technician Dennis E. McKenzie Jr, were pulled over off the side of I-71 near mile marker 181 to make repairs to Garceau’s tractor trailer.
At the same time, Paul Cory was driving his 2014 Toyota Camry north on I-71. Police say Cory fell asleep at the wheel, causing his car to run off the right side of the road and through the properly placed safety triangles, crashing into the two men.
Both Garceau and McKenzie were killed instantly.
Cory was treated for minor injuries at the scene and was released.
Cory told the Ashland County Sheriff’s Office that he fell asleep at the wheel and was not aware that he had hit the two men.
The crash is still under investigation by the Ohio Highway Patrol. It is not yet known if drugs or alcohol were involved in the incident.
As of Wednesday morning, no charges had been filed.
