A merging motorist struck a tractor trailer in California on Wednesday, causing its load of beer to spill onto the roadway.

The accident happened on January 24th at approximately 7:30 a.m. in Salinas, California.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the semi truck was heading north on Highway 101, near Market Street, when a motorist merged onto the highway and struck the big rig, forcing it off the road and onto the shoulder of the roadway. The impact caused the truck to lose its load, spilling cases of beer everywhere.

Local newspaper The Californian reported that “officers determined that the big rig had been heading northbound in the right lane when a 2002 Toyota Corolla was merging. It hit the big rig, causing the driver to lose control and crash down the highway’s eastern embankment.”

Luckily, no one was hurt in the accident, but hundreds of bottles of Firestone beer were left scattered on the side of the road.

Crews then worked to clear the broken glass and cardboard from the side of the road, and the incident has since been cleared.

The trucker and motorist have not been named and it is still unclear what citations, if any, have been issued. Police say drunk driving wasn’t a factor in the crash.
