A truck driver was able to tackle and tie down a man who stole equipment from his semi truck on Tuesday, but it’s the thief’s scalp-less mugshot that’s raising eyebrows.
The incident occurred at the Economy Inn in Palatka, Florida on Tuesday after a truck driver heard noises coming from his semi truck parked outside. When he left his room to investigate, he discovered 62-year-old Tommie Bennett attempting to flee the scene with a tent, tackle box, and fishing pole that he stole from the truck.
According to WJAX-TV, the driver was able to catch up with the thief, who was attempting to flee on a bicycle, and wrestle him to the ground. He then tied him up with a wire until police arrived.
In addition to the stolen equipment, officers found un-prescribed Viagra pills in Bennett’s pockets. He was arrested and charged with larceny, burglary, and possession of a drug without a prescription.
Bennett’s mugshot immediately sparked controversy online, after some people believed his disfiguration was the result of excessive force. The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office quickly put those claims to rest by mentioning that his unusual appearance was due to a skin condition.
