The Illinois State Police recently shared a video that was captured on a trucker’s dash cam, showing the “definition of a reckless driver.”
In the clip a car is seen zooming around several big rigs by driving on the highway’s shoulder.

This is the definition of a reckless driver. Combining aggressive driving actions like speeding, rapid lane changes, following too closely, and passing on the shoulder is a good way to seriously injure or kill yourself or someone else. When the driver of this vehicle decided to merge onto the shoulder, he or she had no idea what was ahead on the shoulder due to the proximity of their vehicle and the semi truck. Debris, a disabled motorist, or emergency vehicles all could have been present, resulting in a disastrous outcome. Thank you to the professional driver who supplied the dashcam footage of this incident. Please remember to drive responsibly.
Although it may be a sight that most professional drivers are used to seeing, it’s great to see a law enforcement agency calling out this kind of reckless behavior on a public platform.
