A motorist was arrested for a hit and run accident with a semi truck in California on Thursday night.
The accident occurred on August 23rd at around 10:45 p.m. in Sand Bernardino, California.
According to Los Angeles CBS news, a semi truck hauling peaches and plums was traveling along the southbound 215 Freeway near University Parkway when a motorist suddenly crashed into the moving rig, sending the truck off the freeway overpass before landing on University Parkway and bursting into flames.
The motorist responsible for the wreck quickly sped away and Good Samaritans were left to help pull the driver from the burning big rig. He was quickly transported to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. Another driver from a vehicle also struck by the hit-and-run driver was transported to the hospital as well, but only with minor injuries.
Firefighters worked to put out the flames as a hazmat crew was called to the scene to aid in the cleanup of 50 gallons of diesel fuel spilled in the wreck. Smashed and burnt peaches and plums also had to be scraped from the roadway, shutting down University Parkway in both directions through Friday morning at around 9:00 a.m.
Police were able to catch up with the motorist responsible who fled the scene later that evening. The unnamed suspect was then arrested and charged with driving under the influence of intoxicants and hit-and-run.
