A surveillance camera caught a fuel truck driver’s heroic actions on tape after he singlehandedly stopped a carjacking.
It happened on Thursday, October 12th at approximately 2:09 p.m. in Allen Park, Michigan.
According to the Allen Park Police Department, a woman was pumping gas at a BP gas station at 16054 Southfield Road when a man walked up behind her and snuck into the driver’s seat of her car. The man then started the car and the woman realized what was happening, so she jumped in the passenger seat of the car to try and stop him. The carjacker then began driving off, the woman still hanging partially out of the vehicle, and that’s when the truck driver noticed that something was wrong.
“I see the car pull off and it yanks the hose away from the pump, and I’m like what the hell is going on,” said the truck driver, who wishes not to be identified, as he believes his actions were nothing to brag about, reported Click on Detroit.
The car then made the circle around the pumps and approached the fuel truck, so the trucker driver took matters into his own hands.
“I go up to the side door and she’s fighting with him. I said, ‘Is he trying to steal your car?’ and she says, ‘Yes, he’s trying to steal my car.’ I say, ‘Put in park, put it park,'” the truck driver continued.
The trucker then made his way to the driver’s door and grabbed the carjacker by his shirt.
The two fought for a moment, the carjacker losing his hoodie in the process, but the car thief was eventually able to escape the grip of the truck driver and run off down a nearby alley.
“He just shimmied out of my arms and away he went,” said the trucker.
“You never know, the guy could have had weapons on him…. He [the trucker] saved her,” said Ali Noureddine, Assistant Manager at the gas station.
“In the moment, you don’t think about that kind of thing. You don’t,” added the hero trucker.
Police are still searching for the suspect and urge anyone with information to call the police at (313)-386-7800.
