Witnesses say a tractor trailer tried to beat a train across the tracks in Oklahoma on Friday, causing a wreck that damaged the truck and killed several of the cows it was hauling.
The incident happened on February 2nd at approximately 12:30 p.m. in Elgin, Oklahoma at a rail road crossing with no crossing arms.
According to reports, the cattle truck attempted to make it across the tracks as the train was approaching, but was unsuccessful, causing the back-end of the livestock trailer to get struck by the train.
The impact killed several cows and allowed the surviving cows to exit the trailer and roam free.
No human injuries were sustained in the incident, according to local KSWO news.
Horseback riders were called in to assist officers in the wrangling and corralling of the loose animals, and they have since been penned.
“Cows went flying,” said Terry Russell, a witness to the crash, who says that this is the second semi truck to crash with a train at this crossing.
“I think they definitely need crossing arms at these train tracks… But he [the truck driver] should have known better. I just feel bad for the cows…” she added.
